Through a simple wordplay, the aim of the project is
to highlight the connections and analogies between the fentanyl crisis and smartphone addiction.
Firstly, the way smartphone users hunch over their devices can resemble the posture of those experiencing the effects of fentanyl.
Additionally, 5G technology, which connects smartphones to the internet, has become a target of
various conspiracy theories. Some believe it is secretly injected into the population, much like a drug, alongside the Covid vaccine to ensure social control. Meanwhile, others suspect that major pharmaceutical companies intentionally create and
prescribe drugs such as fentanyl to keep people unaware and absent-minded.
Also, “5G” can refer to a specific measurement of five grams, a quantity that echoes terminology commonly used in drug dealing and consumption.
As a result, in this project, an iPhone was blended and divided into doses of five grams. Each dose is priced to reflect the cost of an iPhone per gram, totaling €489 for about 145 grams, or approximately €3.37 per gram.
